We’re proud to announce that Lenexa Medical has been recognised by TIME Magazine as one of the World’s Top HealthTech Companies of 2025, earning a Very High rating in the Medical Devices & Wearables category.
This global recognition positions us as a proudly Australian and TIME-honoured healthtech innovator, committed to improving health outcomes in the aged care sector.
It’s TIME for Change
The current standard of care has remained the same since TIME’s first edition in 1923. Scheduled turns are ineffective and fail to accommodate medical staff shortages, but people are stuck in the past. Unfortunately, pressure injuries have been accepted as inevitable, but we refuse to accept that; residents and carers deserve better.
Lenexa Medical started with one mission: Preventing avoidable pressure injuries. By combining compassion and technology, we’re setting a more reliable standard of care that is already transforming lives in Australia, Singapore and Thailand, and we’re continuing to bring it worldwide. It’s time to redefine pressure injury care for the 21st century.
In celebration of the TIME accolade, we’d like to reflect on the journey we’ve taken to develop LenexaCARE®, the beneficial impact we’ve made on carers and patients, as well as what the future holds for Lenexa Medical.
A Journey Through TIME: Lenexa Medical’s Beginnings
Founded by University of Melbourne graduates, LenexaCARE® was designed by a team of clinicians, engineers and MBAs to address the pressure injury crisis in Australia.
Clinicians repeatedly flagged one issue: The inability to detect pressure injuries and act on them quickly. Periodically shifting patients’ body positions to avoid prolonged pressure is a current solution. However, with a lack of data and immediate reactive care, keeping track of their positioning is a challenge. Particularly in busy hospitals, nurses and doctors have only a limited time to care for multiple patients, sometimes all at once.
LenexaCARE® alleviates this by providing cutting-edge, real-time tracking of patient positions with the latest sensor and machine-learning technology, alerting nurses and caregivers when it’s time for a patient to receive personalised repositioning.
“We wanted to develop a solution, not to replace nurses or healthcare providers, but to support them with a second pair of eyes,” Chief Executive Officer Ajit Ravindran said.
“The most memorable conversation I had was with an anaesthetist when we were observing a surgery. He said that if he could see anything else on the patient monitoring screen, it would be great to know what pressures were occurring below the patient,” Chief Scientific Officer Will Yang said. The challenges of not knowing what was happening beneath the patient inspired the team’s drive to develop LenexaCARE®.
TIME to Act: Making a Real Difference with LenexaCARE®
Treating pressure injuries in Australia costs the healthcare industry billions of dollars annually. With more choosing LenexaCARE®, we’re reducing those costs not only locally, but across the globe.
Already, our evidence-backed design and measurable outcomes indicate significant improvement. Our partners report zero pressure injuries, as well as over 1 million hours of monitoring recorded.
LenexaCARE® data has found that aged care facilities can save one to two turns per resident per night because patients have already repositioned themselves. Nurses and carers can save time and no longer need to disturb their residents’ sleep, leading to an improved quality of life and a more accommodating approach to care.
Collie’s (Western Australia) ValleyView Residence has attested to the reduced manual handling, which has improved not only staff safety but resident satisfaction: “People who are bed bound obviously need to have comfort and be moved at particular times,” their Chief Executive Officer, Mark Sheldon-Stemm, explained. “LenexaCARE® gives us this alert, so we can go and actually see the resident to make sure that they have or haven’t moved. If they do need to be moved for comfort, they can be moved.”
Nurses can also intervene before minor concerns escalate into serious complications. Older patients with pressure injuries are twice as likely to die within 12 months compared to those without.
A Baptist Residential Aged Care Provider reported that residents were 78% less at risk of a pressure injury, and repositioning compliance across trial participants improved by 77%. This highlights the life-saving outcomes of shifting from reactive to proactive pressure care. “We tried so many available pressure injury solutions, but nothing has resonated like this has,” their Facility and Nursing Manager said.
Recognition from TIME: Lenexa Medical Going Forward
We are deeply indebted to everyone part of our journey who has helped us earn this award from TIME. LenexaCARE® and its impact would not be possible without our incredible team, partners and supporters.
