Smarter Dashboards, Safer Residents: What the ACED-IT Study Reveals About LenexaCARE®

August 27, 2025

In the heart of every aged care facility lies a profound commitment: to provide dignified, high-quality care to our elders. Yet, despite the tireless efforts of dedicated nurses and care workers, challenges persist. One of the most significant hurdles? “Data overload” and the unfortunate reality of “missed nursing care”. Imagine a wealth of information about residents, but without a clear, timely way to use it, leading to overlooked needs, and potentially, preventable complications like urinary tract infections, falls, and pressure injuries.

But what if technology could act as a guardian angel, ensuring no crucial detail slips through the cracks? A groundbreaking Aged Care Research & Industry Innovation Australia (ARIIA) backed study, “A Digital Alert Feedback System (Aged Care Electronic Dashboard Information Tool, ACED-IT) to Enhance Quality Nursing Care,” explores just this. It reveals how intelligently designed digital systems can empower staff, enhance decision-making, and ultimately, elevate the standard of care. Powering the pressure injury care side of this innovation, we find a familiar name: LenexaCARE®.

The ACED-IT dashboard was co-designed to be a nurse’s proactive partner, tackling the very issues that lead to missed care. To achieve this, the researchers meticulously mapped twenty-seven existing systems at their trial site. Out of this extensive landscape, LenexaCARE® emerged as one of just three key systems identified for crucial care alert integration, alongside Person Centred Software (PCS) and Tell Touch.

Specifically, LenexaCARE® played a vital role by serving as a data source for the ACED-IT dashboard specifically for pressure area care mattress monitoring. This isn’t just a technical detail; it’s a testament to LenexaCARE®‘s focused contribution to a critical area of resident health: preventing debilitating pressure injuries.

The impact of integrating data from systems like LenexaCARE® into the ACED-IT dashboard resonated deeply with the nursing staff. They could clearly see how this digital solution could help prevent adverse events, especially in areas like hygiene and skin integrity, where pressure wounds are a constant concern.

One registered nurse articulated the frustration, stating; “Definitely with the pressure wounds, we have had some pressure wounds that have started and that’s not kind of been picked up on what I would think would be early enough. Like pressure points can be prevented, especially with the like notifications and stuff that we get, so maybe that could be easier to track within your system”. Commenting on the data provided by the LenexaCARE® system: “..it’s very like structured in a way where you can easily access how many is at risk for different things and you can easily get access to keep an eye on and like you mentioned, with the pressure wounds like you can kind of be ahead of it rather than waiting until you see the signs.”

Another added, the dashboard has “the ability though, like you said with the early warning systems to get in there before we actually need to do the hardcore care items, and pressure injuries are perfect example”.

These powerful testimonials underscore the profound value of real-time or near real-time data from specialised systems such as LenexaCARE®. By highlighting potential issues early, nurses can intervene before minor concerns escalate into serious complications, fostering a more proactive and preventative approach to care.

The overall sentiment from nurses, care workers, and managers involved in the study was overwhelmingly positive. They recognised ACED-IT, enriched by data from partners like LenexaCARE®, as a quick visual tool for data analysis, documentation, and care planning. This integration of fundamental and clinical care domains not only improved handovers but also boosted workflow satisfaction. Nurses appreciated being able to view essential information at a glance, allowing them to keep an eye on residents in various categories and identify which interventions of care need to be implemented.

In essence, by simplifying access to critical information and enabling faster insights, solutions like LenexaCARE® are contributing to a future where nurses are better equipped to make informed decisions, triage care effectively, and ultimately, ensure that every resident receives the attentive, person-centered care they deserve. This is how technology truly serves humanity in aged care.
